Light and Crispy Crumbed Chicken Wings
Delicious Chicken Wings with a spicy, light and crispy crumb

- 500 gram chicken wings
- vegetable or peanut oil for frying
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp chilli sauce
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
Chicken Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp celery salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp origanum
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
Flour Mixture
- 3/4 cup cake wheat flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp cornflour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp celery salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp origanum
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp chilli powder
In a medium bowl mix all the seasoning ingredients, celery salt, garlic powder, origanum, dried thyme, black pepper and chilli powder. Add the chicken wings and mix well using your hands. Chill for 30 minutes
In a separate bowl whisk together the egg and chilli sauce
Heat oil on medium-high heat
Dredge chicken wings into the egg mixture. Shake off any excess mixture and dip them into the flour. Ensure they are well coated. Place wings into the hot oil, reduce the temperature to medium heat and fry a few wings at a time for 5-7 minutes until chicken is cooked and crumb is golden brown
Remove from oil and place on tray lined with paper towel
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce
- When dipping the chicken in the flour mixture, start with just half the mixture and add more as required. There may be a little extra flour which you can always use another time
- If you don't have chilli powder you can add more paprika or leave out the chilli powder altogether
- Celery Salt can be replaced with normal table salt
