Cuisine: Indian
Keyword: cheesy garlic naan bread, garlic naan bread, indian bread, yeast naan bread
Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cake wheat flour or all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 150 ml warm milk
  • 2 cups grated mozarella cheese
  • 2 large garlic cloves minced
  • 50 gram butter
  • coriander leaves finely chopped

Instructions

  • Place the flour, yeast, salt and sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Give it a quick mix
  • Add the yogurt, oil and warm milk and knead for 5-7 minutes on medium speed. The dough will seem sticky at first but will eventually become silky smooth and pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Remove the dough from the mixer. Make a ball with the dough and rub some oil on the dough. Place it in a large greased bowl
  • Allow the dough to rest in a warm place for 1 hour or until it's double in size
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces
  • Create a neat ball with each piece and flatten it a little. Place about 2 tablespoons of cheese in the centre. Bring the edges together and create a ball
  • Dust a flat surface with flour and roll out as thin as possible, about 24cmx14cm. Be gentle when rolling as the cheese may pop out
  • Add the garlic and butter to a bowl. Heat in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds
  • Heat a pan on high heat. Toast the naan bread until brown spots starts to form. Flip it over
  • If you have a gas cooker, you can turn the heat down and hold the naan bread over the flames with a pair of tongs until it's slightly charred
  • Brush the naan bread with the garlic butter and sprinkle some fresh coriander on top. Serve hot

Notes

  1. I usually heat my oven on the lowest setting just until it starts to warms up. I then turn it off and place my covered dough in the oven. This helps it rise faster
  2. You can increase the amount of garlic if you prefer extra garlicky naan bread
  3. You can also sprinkle some cheese on top of the naan bread and toast them for some extra cheesiness.
