Best Chilli Cheese Toast

This chilli cheese toast can be prepared in under 15 minutes with a few staple ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 slices sour dough bread
  • butter for spreading
  • 4 tablespoon cream cheese
  • 1 cup mozarella cheese grated
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese grated
  • 1/4 green pepper diced
  • 1/2 small red onion diced
  • 1 small spring onion chopped
  • 1 green chillie chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander chopped
  • 3 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon chilli powder
  • tomato sauce or chilli sauce for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat oven using the grill/broil function
  • Spread some butter on both sides of the bread. Heat a pan on the stovetop, on medium heat and toast the bread on both sides,just until it turns slightly brown.
  • Remove from the bread from the pan and spread 1 tablespoon of cream cheese on top of each slice of bread
  • In a bowl, mix all of the remaining ingredients together, except the tomato sauce or chilli sauce (if using)
  • Spread the mixture equally on top of each slice of bread.
  • Place it in the oven and grill for 5 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly
  • Serve hot with a drizzle of tomato sauce or chilli sauce

Notes

  1. If you wish to make this sandwich on the stovetop. You can place it in a heated pan (last step) and cover it with a lid. This will allow the cheese to melt. Once the cheese is melted you can remove from the pan and serve.
  2. There are loads of vegan/vegetarian mayonnaise on the market that can be used for this recipe if you are strictly vegetarian.
  3. I am obsessed with the Woolies Bombay ketchup and it's what I used to drizzle on top of the toast, however you can use a chilli sauce or normal tomato sauce 
  4. 4. If you do not have chaat masala feel free to omit it. It is sold in most spice stores and that's where I get mine from.
